Which Kind of Logo is Right for Your Business?

Which Kind of Logo is Right for Your Business

Are you launching a new product or business? You know you need a logo but you aren’t sure where to start or what kind you need? Here are some different types of logos that might work for you.

The Coca Cola logo is an example of a Wordmark

Wordmarks

Wordmarks are built around your company name. Again, keep it consistent. They’re perfect if you’re looking for something minimal and if you’re a professional service like a financial firm. But on the flip side, they can also look too serious, bland, and boring if you aren’t careful. Coca-Cola is a great example of a Wordmark with personality.

Logo Type

This combines a word mark and a logo and is the best of both worlds. It’s an excellent place to start so people can build a connection in their minds between the name of your company and your logo.

Hasbro is a great example of a logo that combines visual elements with type.

Pro Tip: Create logo variations early on so you can be consistent and they work together and look like they’re part of the same brand. The core of your logo should be included in all your variations. Also, make sure your logo looks good in black and white. If it passes that test you can reproduce it everywhere from hats to your website.

Logo Variations

In the digital age, this is a must-have. Variations of your logo are essential because your standard logo may not fit or need to be altered for the application. Black and white might be best for embroidering a logo on a shirt or hat. You may need a simplified logo for your website’s favicon or social media channels. Or a version with a tagline and no tagline or wordmark only. Check out how McDonald’s has varied their logo depending and where it appears.

Overall pick a solution that works best for your business that can grow and evolve with you over time. And if you’re wondering what makes a great logo, read all about it here.
